Well I think we picked a house. It wasn’t that hard really. We narrowed it down to 2 that we really liked from photos. Then after seeing them both, one was okay… my major dislike about it was that it’s scrunched in between 2 other houses. Why do they make houses so close together anyway??? I didn’t like the kitchen very much either… It had very dark counter tops and seemed kind of closed in. It was the bigger of the two.
The one we liked (I absolutely loved, Preston likes but has a couple minor dislikes) is actually smaller than the house we are in now, tecnically. It sure feels smaller and that is one thing I love about it. This current house is soooooo tall. The celings are not the standard height and it makes it feel so big and open. The more I look at our current house, the more I can see why I loved it, but the more I also see how over the top it is. Everything in this current house is just sooooo big. It’s not that cozy feeling. I’ve tried to make it cozy, but when you have such big open spaces it’s hard.
So anyway, the house I (we) loved has closer to standard celing heights so it really brings things down a lot. And the fact that it has one stair case instead of two like our current house, makes it feel a lot smaller as well. I thought it felt so nice and home-y and cozy, even empty! I love the kitchen and breakfast area. I basically love everything about it. The things that Preston disliked compared to the other choice was that the office is smaller, two of the bedrooms are smaller, the laundry room is smaller, the garage is smaller… I think that’s it. So basically some parts of it are smaller… and in my opinion, not small enough to not choose it but I trust his choices and he is my husband, so if he wants the other house, I will happily live in the other house. The house is still really, really big though. It’s a big decision, so he’s picky.
I sort of feel bad being so picky when I know tons of people who would love to have anything over 3 bedrooms and here we are like “oh 2 of the 6 bedrooms are smaller, this just will not do!” lol okay so he’s not being like that by any means, but you know what I’m saying.
We actually got the keys today… but we’re not moving in until the 24th. That is soooo soon but we don’t really have a choice, so that sucks a little. So between now and then, we’ll be painting some rooms in the new house, switching/canceling services (I hate that part) like water/electricity/gas/internet/phone/etc., packing, etc. The house is brand new, never lived in so that is pretty nice. The yard looks like crap because they just put the grass down so it’s like…. brown. But anyway, I’m just so happy they gave us such a great deal.
My parents and brother will be here the 17th-22nd so it sucks that I’ll be packing during that time, but they are happy to help considering my “condition”.
And then that weekend some of Preston’s family will be up here to help move. Everyone is being so helpful, it’s awesome. I love my family.
So anyway, here’s some pictures!!!

I forgot to take a picture of the front so here is the one from their website.
Right when you walk in the front door, looking into the living room.
Standing in the living room looking at the front door.
Sitting area, to the left when you walk in the front door.
Formal dining room, to the left when you walk in the front door.
Standing in formal dining area, looking into Preston’s office, which is to the right hand side when you walk in the front door.
Standing in Preston’s office. And my Armada through the window.
Looking into the kitchen from the formal dining area. Area to the right that I imagine I will use to stack bills on which will be nice. Pantry to the left.
Standing in the kitchen looking at the breakfast area.
The kitchen. loooooooove. I love this kitchen! My current kitchen has the range on the island and it only has two gas burners and a gas grill area. This has 4 gas burners, and I loooove that.
Standing in the breakfast area looking into the living room. That door way goes to the master bedroom on the right and the laundry room, bathroom, and garage on the left.
Standing at the bottom of the stairs looking into the living room.
Looking up the stairs.
Area at the top of the stairs. Will probably put the pool table up here and have this be a play room. If you go left there is what they called a bedroom, but it has double doors so I think it’s really a bonus room and we’ll put our extra TV and couch in here and use it like a movie room.
Standing in the area at the top of the stairs looking across. If you go down this hallway there are the 2 larger bedrooms and a bathroom. You can also not go down this hallway and go down another small hallway by going right at the top of the stairs and go to the 2 smaller bedrooms and a bathroom.
Upstairs bathroom between the 2 larger bedrooms. No pictures of the bedrooms, you can imagine bedrooms.
There is another bathroom that is Jack and Jill style near the 2 smaller bedrooms.
Standing on the stairs looking down at the living room.
Master bedroom from door way. Looks almost exactly like our current master bedroom.
Master bedroom standing in front of windows.
Looking into master bathroom. Big walk in closet at the other end of the bathroom.
Master bathroom. Counters are to the left when you walk in the bathroom. The potty is in it’s own little potty room across from the shower.
Shower and tub.
Okay that’s it. Geez that was a lot of pictures! It will be fun to compare once we are all moved in!
Anyway, we were gone all day so I’m dead tired. I think I’m going to take a bath and get to bed early.

It looks really nice! I hope you guys are happy there!!

oh my gosh.. this house is gorgeous!! frickin gorgeous!! (and i can totally see the layout from your descriptions, which is fun.) i love that the master bathroom has that pretty tub near the window. and i think the upstairs hallway area looks SO cool! i love that it’s all exposed and visible from below; it kind of reminds me of the San Fernando Mission right near my house, with the open archways & wood banisters.
also, i feel like being able to see the upstairs from below makes it more home-y.. i could totally see kids running around up there!! awww =D
that’s so great that you found a probable new home so quickly! this one looks like a good choice. it is lame that they build alot of homes SOO close together isn’t it? here, real estate is still going up and there’s tons of demand, so they cram as many houses as they can together, all cookie-cutter houses where the neighbors could reach out & touch eachother. you need privacy, and kids need room to play!
i’m excited for you guys!

omg I want to live there. Do you have pictures of your current house to compare. That would be cool? The house is so beautiful. WOW

That is one HELL of a house. Look at all those windows!
I struggle to coordinate and decorate my 750 sq ft apartment; you are a better woman than I.

That’s a gorgeous house. Makes me miss Texas so much! We lived in Plano TX for about a year and I fell in love with it. I’d love to go back. Stylish homes.

WOW Sarah…what a spectacular home! =) I’m really excited for you guys. Just wait until you and Preston are chasing the twins around the house. Rest up girly hehehe
March 13th, 2007 at 9:34 pm
Thanks everyone
The houses are all sooo big around here I guess I didn’t realize it was out of the ordinary or anything! If you want an amazing house, TX is the place to find them!

If you don’t mind me asking, how much does a house like that go for where you live? A house that size where I live would be an unreal price that most people couldn’t even think about paying.
March 14th, 2007 at 1:06 am
(my parent’s house is one story, 3 bedroom, i’m not sure the square footage.. but it has a very big backyard, good size front yard, a bonus room on the back.. they moved in 22 years ago, but today it would be over $500k.. and that’s nothing compared to the houses being built NOW.)
March 14th, 2007 at 10:26 am
That’s absolutely gorgeous! I hope the move goes smoothly for you, and they’re right! Becareful packing and lifting
March 14th, 2007 at 11:24 am
Well… it’s $450,000. They expect the value to increase 25% in the next two years. We’re meeting with the company today to work out a plan to buy it in 2 years. They’re going to look at our credit and income and tell us exactly what we’ll need to do over the next 2 years to get the best deal possible for us. It’ll be nice because we’ll still only have to pay $450,000 minus whatever we have paid into it over those 2 years, and then minus the 1 year we paid on this current house. So by then it’ll be worth a lot more than will be needing get for the mortgage.

OMG $450K? I live in L.A., and I swear that would be at least $1,000,000, especially if it’s in a nice area (and I’m SURE it has to be since, y’know, it’s GORGEOUS!). Is it bigger than your house in Washington? I think I told you I’m moving to Washington next month?
Hopefully I’m happy there! heh.
March 14th, 2007 at 4:23 pm
Well, besides my parents house, I always lived in apartments in WA. But it is bigger than most houses around where I did live in WA.
And it turns out we are going to buy it ASAP. We signed our contract for one year, but we are going to start the process here in the next couple months.

Isn’t that crazy Amy? I’m not sure what part of LA you’re in, but i’m in the Valley, Granada Hills, so it’s more than lets say Van Nuys.. and yeah that house would be SOO much money out here! Where I live, probably more like $2 mil, cuz I’ve been inside the $1.5m houses and they’re alright.. not like this one. (The cost-of-living is higher here of course, since it’s a coastal state and it’s L.A. & all, so minimum wage & all that follows it is higher too.. but WOW.) I wanna move to central CA sometime with my boyfriend; I ultimately wanna live in So Cal when I’m older, but San Luis Obispo & all that.. is just amazingly goegeous, and a lil cheaper too (and wherever there’s a Trader Joe’s I can live, because it’s easy to transfer from my store to any others with one phone call).
I won’t have a house for a longggg time though.
Sarah I’m glad you guys found such a gorgeous house that your kids will be able to grow up in! By the time you’re all settled, they might show up any day! =)

That is a beautiful house. It sort of reminds me of the house my mother and stepfather recently bought down here. The front looks very similar, but your’s is bigger their’s is 5 bed/3.5 bath. Congratulations. I bought a 2 bed/1 bath down here that’s like 2o-something years old but totally refurbished for 70k. My mom’s was 215k.
March 15th, 2007 at 3:03 pm
Oh, yeah. I love all the natural light, but I have one word to say about the window in the bathroom, and that is…drapes.
March 15th, 2007 at 3:20 pm

March 16th, 2007 at 12:11 pm
