January and February are fairly significant months in my life (because I met Preston in January and got engaged in February), and so because I love to tell the whole world about my life (although no one cares about it… except the nearly 1000 people who come here every day) I’ve decided to tell the long version of how I met my husband and ended up married seven months later, in a series of posts conveniently titled:
How I Fell in Love With a Stranger (and ended up married 7 months later) Part __
I’m going to start out with a little bit of background, which, might contain far too much truth for some but hey, at least I’m honest. SO. On with the story…
I was 20 years old, living in my parents downstairs portion of their split level house, with my boyfriend of 5 years (well it was 4 years at the time, 5 years total. Which means we were dating since I was 16. He drove me to get my drivers license. Cute huh?) We’ll call him B. I had recently dropped out of beauty school because I realized I absolutely hated dealing with people who are ridiculously picky about their hair, and so I was attending a community college while I figured out exactly what it was that I was going to do with my life. What I deep down wanted was to be married and have children, but B ever so nicely informed me on more than one occasion that the order of things was going to be this: paramedic school, paramedic job, house, truck, boat, 10 additional years for whatever, then maybe marriage, and then possibly when hell freezes over there could be one child. So, that didn’t really leave much room for my dream of a house full of laughing children. So I told myself that kids were overrated anyway and decided to go to school for psychology, more specifically I wanted to focus on troubled youth and drug and alcohol abuse counseling.
B decided that he wanted to attend paramedic school in Dallas. At first I was going to stay behind and continue going to school and keep my job as a sterilization technician at the dentist office (a fancy name for the girl who sterilizes all those thingys the dentist uses to work on your teeth) and I didn’t want to leave all my friends behind and go to some big city where I didn’t know anyone. But, after giving the idea some more thought, I also didn’t want to leave B for 9 months and at that point I had pretty much decided that what I was going to school for wouldn’t work for me because I would get too attached to troubled youth and too many people who would have to have drug and alcohol abuse counseling didn’t really want it anyway (which only pissed me off) and so my current path was starting to look like a dead end road. Dallas was starting to sound pretty exciting, so what the hell. Dallas it is.
B and I got rid of everything we owned that wouldn’t fit into our two tiny cars. One being a Ford Taurus and the other being a Jetta. This left very little room for basically anything but clothes. So not only was I moving to a big city into some random apartment we found online, we were going with nothing. Great. This should be fun, right?
So it was mid June 2005 and the day had come. We packed up our cars, put the dog in my front seat, and set out on the long drive that resulted in…
…the worst week of my life.
To be continued…

Yay. I’m excited to hear this story because you were absent so much from your blog during this point of your life. The Pioneer Woman has been doing a series on how she met and fell in love with her husband and it’s so cute to read people’s stories.

Very interesting! Andrew and I started dating 23 days before he proposed, we had gone through a lot together as friends though, and we knew that we would last!

I am anxious to hear the rest of the beginning of your happily ever after.

you know what ive been reading since the cam girl days (lol if you call it that) for you and i remember b and you guys moved in together etc then i kinda faded off the net for a bit and when i looked you up again here you were married and pregnant..NOT to b…i always wondered that gap and almost asked in the q&a before but thought maybe its touchy and better left alone….my curiousity was not enough to possibly cause discomfort for lack of a better word..but i did always wonder!

Aw yay, I love these personal stories!
I really enjoy Ree’s love story between her and her Marlboro Man at thepioneerwoman.com and I can’t wait to read yours, too! Such a great idea to do this!
The first part sounds kinda scary, though. Sooo much going on and different decisions to make and not to make… It’s good to know that everythig worked out so perfect in the end, that way I don’t get as worried while reading it.
Can’t wait for the next installment!

I remember all this to.
You know, when I think of insydious the layout that sticks out in my mind was blue and had a vector of Jimmy Eat World.

How funny that I remember all those years you were with B. Funny how things change so drastically, yet for the better. I’m so proud of you!
Sounds like me moving to Houston with just my clothes. I ended up back home though.
