It’s what every little girl needs

Today is Ashton’s 8th birthday. So, happy birthday to her. We had her over for dinner tonight, I made chicken and we ate cake and she opened a couple gifts. She asked for clothes and a new Barbie for her birthday, so I was out getting her gifts and I had already picked out some clothes, and I was dreading the Barbie isle. I hate walking down the Barbie isle and seeing what new slutty doll is being thrown in little girls faces.

Yes, I said it. Barbie has become a slut.

Okay maybe she’s not sleeping around with Ken’s friends (or is she? ) but seriously, whose idea is it to dress up little dolls in short skirts where their plastic behinds are handing out, along with shirts so short they barely cover their plastic breasts? I saw the Top Model Barbies, with their new jointed torso’s for posing, which really means you can now stick Barbie’s butt out while you pose her in her miniature bikini. Seriously, this doll was posed with her back arched and her butt was sticking out. Another Top Model Barbie was wearing whore red colored thigh highs. I would never give my little girl a doll to play with that was wearing thigh highs. I realize these are “fashion dolls” but seriously, can’t they just keep it to normal fashion. Fashion that is suitable for the little girls that are actually playing with these dolls? Barbie can be hip without dressing like a slut.

And just when I thought I had seen it all…. ladies and gentlemen allow me to introduce…

Cabaret Dancer Barbie.

“Cabaret Dancer Barbie® doll is dressed to thrill in a daring black and silvery outfit designed to show off those agile legs! Fishnet hose, spiky heels and a sassy top hat complete the sultry stage look.”

Oh perfect. Just what we need for our little girls. Why don’t they just call it what it is? Stripper Barbie. Don’t even get me started on Bratz dolls. And what is this?!?? Not only does that Barbie have cleavage, she looks like the woman who’s married to the old rich dude but sleeps with the pool boy.

Anyway, I ended up going for this sweet little High School Musical doll. See, she’s cute and stylish and she isn’t dressed like a 2 cent hooker.

I also had to get some blubs for the guest room bathroom lights because my brother will be here Tuesday. Yay!

Oh my gosh! I had no idea that Barbies look like THAT now. I bought my 2-year-old niece a Barbie DVD this past Christmas. Before that, she had never heard of Barbie, or even cared about her (them?). Now she’s obsessed. I’m just waiting to see what Barbie she’s going to play with when she reaches Ashton’s age.

  2. Jen Says:

Wow. Barbie. Who would have thought.
I havent seen or played with Barbies in years. I guess thats coming though for me soon enough!!

I like the high school musical one… its probably would I would choose as well.

  3. xoxoerica Says:

Um oh wow. That’s bad. Guess when I have kids I won’t be buying them barbies!!!

  4. Madison Says:

I so don’t get the Bratz dolls. They are so slutty they make Barbie look tame. Maybe you guys could try pushing her into the American Girl series?

  5. Alissa Says:

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ASHTON!!

Oh, and I agree! I hate the way they are making Barbie and well, alot of toys these days. Thats why we have children dressing and acting the way they do. Sad :/

  6. Dee Says:

Happy Birthday to Ashton! I totally agree with you Sarah about the dolls.. its disgraceful… theyre not about being princesses or cute lil chicks, theyre about sexyness and sluttyness.. its disguesting… I like the choice you made though

  7. AJ Says:

That’s awful. I agree that Barbie has become slutty over the years. The Top Model ones are just plain bad looking. This reminds me of last Halloween. I took a friends daughter out to look at Halloween costumes (she’s 4) and the shop had “Pimps & Hoes” costumes for ages 8 & under (this was ON the packaging!). My mouth just hit the floor. I don’t understand how anyone could think that would be appropriate.

Oh a happier note, a very happy birthday to Ashton!!

    Happy birthday to Ashton!

Barbie has changed a lot! Its horrible the way they make them now and the other dolls that follow the same mold.

  9. Jessica Says:

    Happy belated Birthday to Ashton!

I know how you feel about the Barbie/Bratz issue. I just cannot imagine handing a half-naked doll to my children and pretending like it’s okay or even thinking that it is okay. I guess the only way they’ll do something about Barbie/Bratz are if mama’s start complaining about the fact that they are robbing children of innocence. :\

  10. Erica Says:

    happy bday to ashton.

ya..babies been a whore for a while. My mom refuses to get my younger cousins barbies for xmas and they cried when we ust gave them clothes. its insane how dolls look now.

  11. jayesel Says:

good lord, that is so scary. I’m frightened for our children!!!

  12. amy Says:

There’s always the Britney Spears doll! :x hahaha. I don’t know if they make those anymore actually. I used to collect them when they first came out… I was a senior in high school… There was the schoolgirl one and the one with her in the red bodysuit, hahaha.

  13. Rhona Says:

Jeez, I would never buy that for any little girl, let alone my own. It’s scary the crap they come out with for little girls these days.

  14. Janette Says:

Barbie has become quite the desperate cougar. I’m so glad I have a son.

  15. Sarah Says:

I don’t think the Cabaret Barbie looks all that slutty, it’s quite tasteful compared to the Bratz dolls. The Cabaret Barbie is a collector’s item, I don’t think a child would have it.

  16. Sarah Says:

Compared to some Bratz dolls, you’re right, she is tasteful. Aside from the Cabaret Barbie, Barbies in general are becoming less appropriate for young girls.

  17. Della Says:

I hate Bratz dolls too.. especially those Baby Bratz ones… acky.
