I am so upset right now. There is a pregnancy and motherhood forum that I visit, and just last week I had noticed a girl who looked to be about my age who has a 3 month old baby boy and was also pregnant again with twins. I can’t remember how far along she was… I want to say 10ish weeks. I was talking to Preston about her and how much fun she was going to have and all of that. I sent her a private message congratulating her on the twins and offering up support if she needed anyone to talk to about twins/etc and then I log on today, and read the most awful thing.
She got hit by a drunk driver the other day who was going 60mph. She’s okay, but the car hit the side that her baby boy was sitting on, the seat belt holding his car seat in tore, and now he is in the NICU unable to breathe on his own. And, she lost her twins. I just cannot even begin to imagine how her family is feeling right now. It’s weird how you don’t even know someone yet you can feel such sadness for them. It’s just awful.
A stupid, stupid, stupid, selfish drunk driver. I wonder if he’ll get charged with anything? I know that you can get charged twice for killing a pregnant woman… I’m not sure what happens if you cause a woman to miscarry. Interesting how you can get charged with murder for killing a pregnant woman’s unborn baby, but if the woman herself wants to kill the baby then that’s ok. That is just my little ironic observation, please I’m begging you don’t start an abortion debate with me. I’m not in the mood.
Please pray for their family.

As a law student I can tell you unless her state has a specific statute that says it’s murder to kill an unborn child he won’t be charged with anything for the twins. As of now with the liberal definition states can’t take an interest in a fetus before viability outside the womb according to Planned Parenthood v. Casey. That case might also make it hard for a case to charge someone with murder of a fetus before that point even with statutes on it. They also won’t be able to get any kind of monetary compensation from drunk driver for the twins because tort law up to this point in time does not recognize wrongful death causes of actions for unborn kids. Sucks, but thats the law for now.

I will respect your wishes and not start a debate, but some people, like myself, have pretty damn good reasons for choosing one form of abortion or another (I assume you know there is more than one).
That is all I have to add. I do agree that even though you do not know someone your heart can ache for them.

I know there are lots of reasons for abortion and all of that. I don’t judge those who have abortions, it’s not my place. There are obviously different opinions on the when life starts, and I know that and I’m just not interested in arguing with people about when life starts. No one will change my opinion, I won’t change theirs, nor do I want to.
So it’s all good. I’m not trying to offend and I’m sorry if I did somehow.

How incredibly sad.. My heart goes out to her family.

No matter what the statistics say, the stories you hear, the lives lost etc. people are going to keep on doing this. That’s the most saddest thing ever.

That’s awful. There’s a middle-aged couple in my hometown who lost both of their kids in a car accident. The teenage daughter was driving the middle school aged son just moments from their house when she hit a cement wall. Killed them both instantly. It was the saddest thing. Now there is a guardrail up in front of that wall to prevent anyone from hitting it headon like that. But that doesn’t help that poor family.

Oh my, my prayers are with the family and on our prayer list at church. And I’m not sure about the twins. A soldier drowned his pregnant girlfriend in a bathtub here about five years ago and he was charged with two counts of murder. I don’t know how it works in Texas though. Also, if you get in a fight with a pregnant woman and the baby dies, you can be charged with murder. I know this for a fact because when I was pregnant, Grant’s psycho ex tried to jump me and through a brick through my windshield. When the cops caught her, they told her that if she attacked me and I lost the baby that she would be charged with murder.

It’s very sad how its always someone elses life who is taken and not the drunk drivers. I’ll say a prayer for the family and hope the son pulls through.

Oh my goodness, that’s so horrible
. I would be so so so mad at that man if I was her. Wow I can’t even imagine how she feels right now, that’s just awful.

That’s unbelievably sad. I wonder how the family’s coping.
If that happened in this state, that driver would be sentenced for sure. Not too long ago, a family of five was killed by a drunk driver driving on the opposite side of the interstate. There was only one survivor.
I don’t know how people can be so selfish and act like they OWN the entire road. Drinking and driving does not only risk the driver’s life but every single person who is on the road with them as well.

wow, that is so horrible. i couldn’t even imagine losing my unborn children and possibly my born child as well. my prayers and thoughts go out to her. i hope the drunk driver does get sentenced with murder!

Oh no! That’s terrible
I hate that people are stupid enough to drive after they’ve had a drink, I hope that man gets his arse charged. Reading this has just made me really angry but very sad for the woman as well

PS: I just wanted to add I agree with you!

That is truly heartbreaking. I know what you mean about feeling her pain, Sarah because I do and I don’t even know who she is. I won’t get started on abortion either but gosh am I against in every aspect. I could go on for hours debating lol. I hope he gets served though, he deserves it. I am so tired of drunk drivers, and its a damn shame the laws about it aren’t more strict and we have to continue to sit here and watch all these lives be taken. :’( My prayers go out to her family.

I think that bars for instance ought to be required by law to have a breathalizer test administered to people leaving the bar, and if they fail, that the only option for them is to pay for a cab ride home or wait it out. I imagine that would likely save countless lives. I know what its like to have to worry about a family member drinking and driving, and its a deep anguish that you can’t shake.

Wow that actually took my breath away reading that… what a nightmare.
