I have been avoiding talking about politics for some time now because to be honest, I don’t have the energy for arguments at the moment. I get way too into politics if I let myself and so for my sanity, I have been avoiding discussing those sorts of things online.
However, I am going to dip my toes in a little and say that I am pleasantly surprised at McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin for his running mate. I didn’t expect him to pick a woman (I don’t know why… I Just didn’t), but I think it’s a good decision that will help us win the election. I think throwing a respectable woman into the mix will really stir things up and hopefully get some of the ridiculous, undeserving hype off of Obama. I’m really praying that people will start to fall off the popular Obama bandwagon and start seeing who he really is and what his “plans” really are.
I know I have said previously that I wouldn’t vote for a woman as president, but I think that was said prematurely on my part at the horrific thought that Hillary Clinton could have possibly been president. Seriously, for me, the thought of her as president is a nightmare. A woman as vice president is not so bad. I think it really just depends on the woman. I don’t know much about Sarah Palin but I will continue to read up on her.
Either way, it’s history in the making. We’ll either end up with the first black president or the first female vice president. And before anyone jumps on me for speaking about a persons race or gender, by specifying that Obama is black and Palin is a woman, I’m not in any way trying to be racist or sexist.
Now please, know that this is my blog, my place to post my thoughts and if you have something to say in regards to this post, I beg you to please say it in a respectable way. We can all be adults here. And if you can’t, then please just leave. I don’t have the energy or desire to fight with anyone. Discussion is one thing, getting personal and throwing hatefulness and insults around is another. I respect the views and opinions of others, no matter how skewed I think they are. I just ask you to respect me the same.
And besides, arguing stresses me out and stress has been known to give me acne and I really don’t want any acne if I’m going to win a spot on the hot blogger calendar.
Yah, right!

Not just a good pick, a GREAT pick! There wasn’t anyone else under consideration that represented the ideals of ‘flyover’ country as much as her. Those in DC, New York, and California will try to paint her as having no experience. To me, no experience in the cesspool that is Washington is the BEST qualification.
If nothing else, one can only hope that she can dispel the myth that pro-life = anti-woman.
There. I’ll take any heat from other commenters for you, Sarah.

I am so intrigued by McCain’s choice. I think it’s a great choice all around… but for MANY many reasons..
I’m surprised that he chose the governor of Alaska, man or woman. It’s quite common for candidates to choose people from key swing states as their running mates, and Alaska is so conservative (and cold!) that it’s pretty uncommon for the candidates to even travel there- they virtually always give the election to the GOP, and it’s too much work to try and change their minds.
Plus, Alaska has so few electoral votes. I think it’s only 3 or maybe 4 votes. So, again, it’s not a very key state. It’s definitely nothing like California, with 50-some votes, or New York, with 30-some votes.
But that in itself, I think, demonstrates McCain’s conviction that Palin is right for the job. Quite frankly I totally agree with him and I’m very thankful that we have such a wise, intelligent man running for president.
I like Palin. For one thing she’s gorgeous but on a less superficial level, she is brilliant and has made some wonderful decisions for her family and her state. Have you heard about her son w/ down’s syndrome? What a beautiful story! I get so mad when I hear commentators say that she’s “anti-woman” because she’s pro-life or republican, or maybe because she believes that (gasp!) men and women are different.
I’m with you, Sarah- let’s hope that people see through Obama’s charade and make the right choice in the election. I truly, truly believe that McCain-Palin is what our country needs.

Harry- oh the irony- she is three years YOUNGER than Obama, and she has almost the same amount of “experience” as Obama.
Obama is 47. He has served in the Illinois State Senate for 7 years, then as a Junior Senator from Illinois for 3 years.
Palin is 44. She has served as the mayor of Wasilla, Alaska for 6 years and as the governor of Alaska for almost 3 years.

What gets me is how the Democratic party keeps saying that McCain’s argument that Obama lacks experience is now debunk because he chose a running mate that has similar levels of experience as Obama. What mediocre thinking this is…. Obama is running to be PRESIDENT… the ONE in charge…. Palin is running to be VICE President…. yes I’m well aware that she could be President if McCain were to have something happen to him, but that is not what the issue is….. wow @ Obama lovers… It’s the people that you can sell anything to if you slap a celebrity on it and say everyone else likes it
And if you think I’m being unfair, study the word “Popular”…. Bush is such an Un”popular” President… when did Popularity ever assure anyone that it was good…half the kids in my school that were popular found out how retarded popularity is… more people ought to think about the dangers of what is popular and root for the cause that is willing to step on some toes.

i’m kinda sick of all the presidential election stuff. i know it matters a great deal to a lot of people, but i don’t even live in the US and my television is being swamped by it. it makes me wonder if the american people would care that much about our voting!

I don’t blame you for feeling sick of it Alex. I would too if I didn’t live in the US.

Sarah, I agree with his decision. Sarah Palin is an excellent choice for the McCain camp. He just pulled in a lot more of the Hillary supporters who were torn between McCain and Obama. But, Plain has done amazing things in Alaska…and she is an inspirational woman. I got tears in my eyes just listening to her…when she walked out on stage even.

Alex, I live in the US and sometimes I’M sick of it. I know, it’s good for them to be advertising and getting their positions out there, but sometimes it’s just like… enough already!
That said, I do think there is some good “politicking” going on in this election. Preston, I totally agree that, in many ways, you just can’t compare Obama to Palin. My political views have formed almost entirely from my study of history and my study of economics. This election just perfectly showcases the two “types” of presidents we have had- first there’s the president who is charming, inspirational, and gives a good speech (Clinton, Kennedy) and second, there’s the president who is a real workhorse. He may not be good at public speaking but he’s the president who gets things done (Eisenhower, Lincoln). Once in a lifetime, we get a president who is good at both speaking and doing (a la Reagan).
I hope that the voters in this election choose the president based on the issues, NOT because he is a man or woman or black or white. A person’s gender or race does not make him a good president.

Hi, I read your site all the time, I just don’t usually post and I generally don’t get involved in political talk because of the drama that generally ensues. But McCain thinking that by having a female running mate is going to sway Hillary voters his way is absurd. Informed Women wanted Hillary because she had the EXPERIENCE and the LEADERSHIP. Palin has been abroad 2 times. Once to Ireland, and the other to visit troops in Afghanistan, I can’t wait to hear her stance on foreign policy. And the VP debates. I’m a Democrat but it McCain had any brains in him he would have gone with Romney or Pawlenty, People who have done more than be Mayor of a tiny town in Alaska, and then Governor for 1.5 years. Now Palin has the chance to be one heartbeat away from the Presidency.
Just my two sense. I guess the best thing for people to do is to make an informed decision…And don’t become Political Science Majors, I’m sick of discussing this stuff all day in class.

Its always funny to me that everytime someone posts foul language low insults they do it anonymously…… If you are gonna throw insults and you are so sure you are right then do it with dignity, but then if you had any dignity you wouldn’t be posting insults, would you…its ok at least I know who you are

Let me guess, thistimenot@gmail.com and lala828@notmail.com are you real email addresses too right?
Being from Amsterdam, I wouldn’t really expect you to know what your talking about regarding American politics.
