Preston has told me on more than one occasion not to apologize for what I believe in. And I agree, no one should apologize for what they truly believe in.
But sometimes I do feel like I should apologize for how I talk about what I believe in. It’s come to my attention after reading dooce.com that I have possibly done exactly what she has done - and that is offend many loyal blog readers.
Politics brings out anger and frustration in people when they passionately believe in something, and especially when they feel that someone else has gotten it so completely wrong. Sometimes I get so incredibly frustrated at people (and this is not just in politics) and seriously give myself a headache trying to understand how the hell people can really, honestly, seriously believe some of the stuff that comes out of their mouths (and the mouths of others).
I have made some generalizations about liberals/democrats/people out of pure frustration and I would like to sincerely apologize if I have offended some of you with the way I delivered a thought. The truth is, most of the time I get pissed about something and then sit down and type out whatever I’m thinking and I’ve usually not taken the time to think through the best way to say what I want to say. I just go off on a rant. That’s what I do. Just be thankful you don’t have to hear me actually speak!
I am really a very nice person. I’ve always prided myself on being open minded and listening to all sides of something before forming an opinion. I’ve always been the type to look things up and check facts, etc. I’ve had a blog since 1999. I’ve always been used to my blog being a place where I can just let it all out and not give a rip what people think. Well, with having a blog for nearly 10 years (seriously… like… what the heck… 10 years) I’ve gotten many many many devoted readers and made a lot of friends along the way. I would hate to ruin friendships with people and turn off readers because I decided to just bitch and complain about something before thinking out a non-offensive way to get something off my chest.
So. I’m sorry if my way of delivering something has offended you. I am mature enough to look back at something I’ve done and realize that I made a mistake and I’m woman enough to apologize for it.
I’m not, however, sorry for believing what I believe in and standing by the things that I truly think are right. I hope that I can have political discussions with ‘yall in the future in a respectable manner. It’s my promise to you that I will do my best to be respectful in delivering my opinions, and I hope that you will do the same.
Hugs ‘n Kisses.
p.s. McCain/Palin ‘08.
Lol I’m sorry, I had to!

LOL!
I love you Sarah… your PS really made me giggle!
I don’t think you should apologize.. You did nothing wrong, you expressed your own opinions. If people stop reading your blog because of it I think thats pretty petty and pathetic. Everyone is allowed their own opions and views, This is your blog so your place to express what ever you chose.
I do think you are mature regardless of apologizing or not….. Your views/opinions/feelings have been very well written and I know I’m not American but I think its pathetic if anyone lets something someone writes on their blog get to them……. Politics or Otherwise.

I have been visiting your website for as long as I can remember. I still love visiting and reading your opinions on everything including politics even though we hold to seperate belief systems. I for instance am voting for obama and i am a true liberal and I am no way offended by what you say on your blog, and I still love coming. I do have to say though, even though I don’t like mcain much, I do love his vice president pick!

Hey Sarah. I’ve been visiting your site for a while now and have yet to leave a comment but I feel that now is the time. You really don’t have to apologize for something that you think, feel, and believe with a passion. If someone doesn’t like what you have to say, they don’t have to read it or let alone come back to your wonderful site. It’s your personal blog and you have the right to be free with whatever you wish to say. You shouldn’t need to feel like you have to craft things in a certain way to avoid offending anyone. Sometimes, there’s just no way to NOT offend someone. I applaud you for standing up for your beliefs and passions and wish you the best of luck. You and I are not that different in our beliefs. Thanks for blogging!
