Back to the city (ugh!)

Filed Under: Blonde Moments, Emma & Ava

Well, we are all back home now. After being down in the cabin for a while, I’m really not excited to be back in the city! I definitely like it down there.

So, I mentioned yesterday that I thought I might know what was the irritant that caused Emma’s apparent Reactive Airway Disease to flare up. While I had been down at the cabin, she was sleeping in a play pen that Preston’s parents had in storage for a while. I had noticed that it smelled slightly like mildew, but I didn’t pay much attention to it because it’s old and didn’t have any visible mold so I just assumed that it smelled “old”. I covered the pad with a blanket and the smell wasn’t strong or anything, just noticeable if you had your nose down by it. Well, duh Sarah, she was LAYING in it. I feel really bad now because it dawned on me last night what a big mistake I had made by putting her in that play pen. The doctors at the hospital had asked me several times if she had been exposed to anything that could be highly allergenic and I said no. I didn’t even think about the play pen!

Mold/mildew of any kind is highly allergenic and I’m convinced now that that is what caused her to get sick. She must have an allergy to mold, which wouldn’t surprise me. My Dad is very allergic to mold as well. He told me that it doesn’t matter if you can see mold or not, if the smell is there then it’s there. Which of course makes sense. I just didn’t even think that it would be a problem since it wasn’t “that bad”. So anyway, Emma has a check up with her pediatrician next week so I’m going to mention the possible mold allergy to him.

Anyway, we’re having visitors for the 4th of July and I’ve been gone several days so I need to get started on house cleaning. Fun.

Swingin’ Babies

Emma & Ava Swinging

The girls went to the park for the first time today. They LOVED it! They had soooo much fun swinging. I need to find the closest park to our house because this one was out by Ashton’s mom’s house. We stopped by to play a little after we had dinner with her tonight.

Last night was awful. We woke up at 4am to tornado sirens going off. The second time in what… 2 1/2 weeks?! Last spring/summer I don’t recall them ever going off. This was scary though. Last time we could see the funnel cloud forming but this time it was pitch black, the only time you could see anything was when lightening struck and it was bright and the thunder was LOUD. I’ve really never seen anything like it. Near us there was 87 MPH winds recorded!!!!!! Having a 3 story condo doesn’t exactly make me feel safe as far as tornados go. Especially with the girls on the third floor. I jumped out of bed so fast, pulled my jeans on and ran out the bedroom door and headed up the stairs. My Dad was up also and grabbed one of the girls for me. It was really scary. I do not like tornados. Preston and my brother opened the front door and it was soooo windy. I don’t think I’ve ever felt my heart pound so fast before. It’s not as bad when you can actually see what’s going on but when you are jolted awake at 4am and you can’t see a darn thing… I was freaked out. I hope this happening twice in less than 3 weeks is not an indication of how the spring and summer is going to be. I’m going to need a stronger does of anxiety medication if that’s the case!

Today I feel like I got hit by a train. This is really embarrassing but I have to tell yall! Yesterday I was walking down the stairs holding Emma, we were on our way to WalMart to buy diapers and I was going down the stairs and stepped wrong on one of them and slipped! I fell flat on my ass and bumped down four stairs!!! LOL!!! I laughed but Emma didn’t think it was so funny. She was scared but she didn’t get hurt or anything. My sock was slippery on the carpet and I stepped too far forward on the step. It freaked Preston and my Dad out, they came running to see if we were okay. I’m just so glad I didn’t trip and fall forward. THAT would have been bad. My butt, back, and neck are really sore from it. I felt everything sort of compact when I hit the stair, so I might go see a chiropractor if I don’t feel better soon.

Anyway, that’s me today.

p.s. How cute is this?!

I always forget these things

Am I the only one that forgets to refill my prescriptions every month? I was just in my room and realized that I need both my prescriptions refilled! And the bad part is that we are between insurance companies right now so I will probably have to attempt to pay full price for them. I guess full price for birth control pills one month is cheaper than another baby, right? Maybe I can get my pills cheaper if I order them online from a Canadian Pharmacy or something. Really though, sending in my prescriptions online to be refilled might be a good idea, maybe that way I won’t forget to refill them. I bet you can have them automatically refilled. But then I still have to remember to go pick them up. You would think that I wouldn’t forget something as important as this but what can I say, I’m a ditz sometimes.

So this is how smart I am.

Preston and I were on the couch relaxing in front of the fire place, talking about how excited we were for Christmas. He was saying how he is excited to give me my gifts because I’m just going to love them and how I’m going freak over what he got me. Then I said…

“I’m excited to give you your gifts too!!! I really hope you like the colog….”

I totally blew it. This is not the first time I have done this. When I was a teenager, I told my boyfriend at the time, Kyle, “I really hope you like the watch I got you.” I cannot talk about gifts. I am the worst at blurting it out. My inner blonde shines at Christmas and birthdays. So, I tried to play it off…

“Golf shoes… I got you golf shoes.”

Of course that didn’t work because (thank God) Preston doesn’t play golf. So we just laughed at how awesome I am at ruining surprises and I let him open his gift early. He absolutely loved it though. I got him Armani Code and it is heavenly. Mmmmm he smells scrumptious.

it’s not as easy as it looks

Want to know something I suck at? I basically suck at bathing my babies. Yep. I suck at it.

I have watched other people do it and they make it look so easy, but I cannot seem to get it down. You would think that having twins, I would have had the last 4 months times two to get it mastered, but nope. I suck at it times two. It is really difficult to wash a slippery tiny little baby. They’re getting bigger so it’s getting easier and at the same time, harder. When they were tiny little 5lb squirts it was hard to do because I didn’t want to drown them and they seemed so fragile. Now, I still don’t want to drown them and they’re a little more tough, but I still can’t do it good.

Emma is a little easier to bathe then Ava. Emma sits there and smiles, relaxes, and enjoys it. Although, I don’t know how she can enjoy it when I’m so incredibly uncoordinated at it but whatever. Ava on the other hand, she giggles and smiles and kicks her legs and waves her arms. She’s all kinds of excited about getting a bath, which, I don’t blame her. I love taking baths too but come on, enough with the kicking and flailing about. I don’t know how many times both of them knocked their heads on that hard plastic baby tub today. It makes their head and back all red just from sitting in it.

It started out with sponge baths, which were not so bad. I can do that… kinda. Then I just brought them in the shower with me. That was the easiest but the least practical. Then I was filling up the sink and using that. Now, they are getting too big for the bathroom sink so today I tried, again, to use their baby bath. That thing… seriously. What’s the point? It doesn’t make anything any easier. And actually, I just noticed that I’m probably using it wrong. That’s how bad I suck at giving baths. This is the bath that I have for them. I’ve been using it in the bath tub… I don’t know why. It just looked like it just sat in the bath tub…? Looking at that picture, it looks like it’s being used in a sink.

Someone give me some pointers, please. Tell me a good baby bath to use. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but it takes me forever and they slip and slide around and like I said, I basically suck at it.
